Dixie's Story
Dixie came into our lives during college — a rescue, a chihuahua and dachshund mix, small enough to scoop up in one arm and big-hearted enough to fill a whole house.
She wasn't ours by plan. She was ours by rescue. And from the day she arrived, she made it clear she had no intention of being anything other than family.
For nine years, she was exactly that.
The dog who loved everyone
Some dogs pick a person. Dixie picked everyone.
She loved the whole family, and the whole family loved her right back — there was no shortage of laps to sit on, no shortage of hands to follow around the house. She lived for company. A room with people in it was Dixie's favorite place to be.
She was also, somehow, the perfect cure for anyone nervous around dogs. If you were scared, Dixie was the one who changed your mind — calm, gentle, completely without an edge. More than a few people met their fear of dogs and lost it, because of her.
And if you ever sat down near her, you knew the rule: a belly was meant to be rubbed. She'd roll over, look up at you, and wait. It was the easiest deal in the world to make.
When things got harder
Dixie got older, the way they all do — too quietly, and too fast.
In her later years, her back began to give her trouble. It's common in dogs built like her, long in the body and low to the ground, but knowing that didn't make it easier to watch. We saw it in the small things. The hesitation before she settled. The shifting through the night, trying to find a position that didn't ache. The slow, stiff mornings.
Her pain became our pain. When a dog who has only ever brought comfort starts to struggle, the whole family feels it. We wanted to do something — anything — that would help.
What a better bed did
So we started with the simplest thing we could change: where she slept.
We gave her a real orthopedic bed — proper, supportive foam under her body instead of a thin pad on a hard floor. We didn't expect much. It was just a bed.
But the difference was real. She settled faster. She slept more deeply. The stiff mornings got a little easier. For a dog whose comfort had been slipping away, a good night's sleep gave some of it back. It didn't fix everything — nothing could — but it gave her better days, and more of them.
That stayed with us. The idea that something so simple, so ordinary as a bed, could change how a dog feels every single day.
Why Tempurpups exists
Dixie isn't with us anymore. Nine years was both a long time and not nearly long enough.
But what we learned from her didn't leave. We kept coming back to one thought: how many dogs are out there right now, curled up on a hard floor, aching through the night — when the fix is something as reachable as a better bed?
That thought became Tempurpups.
We started this so that no dog has to go through what Dixie went through, not when it can be helped. We make orthopedic beds for every kind of dog — big and small, young and old, every body and every age — because every one of them deserves to rest easy. And we keep our prices fair, because comfort for your dog shouldn't be a luxury only some families can afford.
Every bed we make, we make with one question in mind: would this have helped Dixie? If the answer isn't yes, we don't make it.
She gave our family nine years of comfort. Tempurpups is how we pass that on.
For Dixie. For your dog. For every pup still waiting for a better night's sleep.
Thank you for being here, and for being the kind of person who reads the story behind a bed. Give your dog a belly rub from us — and from Dixie.
Meet Dixie
